FREQUENTLY ASKED

QUESTIONS

If therapy and/or EFT/tapping are new to you – or maybe even if they aren’t! – you probably have questions. Here are some of the things people ask about the most. If you have questions I haven’t answered below, you are welcome to book a free 20 minute consultation online.

Q: What is psychotherapy?

A: Psychotherapy is a healing and constructive process of addressing personal challenges including emotional distress, internal conflict and facing difficult situations. It is a place where clients are safe to express themselves and be themselves without judgment and criticism.

It involves working with a trained therapist like me to share concerns, develop self-awareness, gain understanding of patterns, and cultivate healthier attitudes and alternatives. By helping clients gain insight and make changes that support their unique needs and objectives, it can lead to a happier and more satisfied life.

Q: What is YOUR APPROACH? How is it different than ‘regular’ psychotherapy?

A: My approach to psychotherapy can be described as heart-centered and positive – it engages you from the heart with compassion and acceptance. I blend evidence-based therapy modalities with EFT and other energy psychology modalities to access whole person healing and lasting transformation. Integrating the aspects of mind, body, and spirit can create possibilities for powerful shifts in thoughts, feeling and behaviors and improve quality of life here and now.

Our work together will be collaborative with focus on empowering you to build internal resources and resilience and take inspired actions consistently towards the life you desire.

Q: What is EFT/tapping?

A: EFT (which stands for Emotional Freedom Techniques and is often referred to as ‘tapping’) is a modality used to access – and regulate – emotion through the body. It is done by tapping on acupuncture points with your fingers. It is very effective on its own and in combination with psychotherapy. You can read more about EFT/tapping here.

Q: What kinds of challenges can you help with?

A: Below is a list of common reasons people seek out my help:

  • Relationship struggles

  • Significant life changes

  • Grief and loss

  • Stress, anxiety and depression

  • A desire to find meaning, purpose and identity

  • To understand and address fears, limiting beliefs and ingrained patterns

  • A desire to build emotional resilience

  • A desire to live powerfully as your authentic self

Q: What steps should I take if I’m interested in working with you, or would like to know more?

A:  If you’re interested in therapy or EFT/tapping services – or think you might be – the first step is to schedule a free discovery phone call. I can tell you a little more about my approach and you can ask questions. From there, you can book an initial intake session. At that meeting, we will discuss and establish goals and determine how best to work together to meet your goals.

Q: WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE FIRST SESSION?

A: Your first session is usually an intake session where we go through a series of questions to get to know you, including your goals for therapy. You will also have the opportunity to get to know me and ask any questions you may have about therapy, my approach or anything else you’re wondering about.

Q: How many sessions will I need?

A: The answer to this question is different for everyone. In the beginning, it is most effective to come weekly in order to build momentum. As you progress, we can reassess what is going to work best for you to achieve long-term, positive changes. People come to therapy for different reasons and their goals may change over time as well. It is realistic to suggest that as you grow and heal, fewer sessions are required.

Q: what are your fees and how often do we meet?

A: Sessions are 60-minutes in length at a rate of $180 + HST per session. This rate applies for therapy, EFT and sessions that incorporate both. Consistency in therapy is key, so I ask my clients to work with me weekly/biweekly.

Q: Are your services covered by OHIP?

A: At this time, OHIP does not cover psychotherapy or EFT/tapping. However, you can check with your insurance provider to see if Registered Psychotherapists are covered under your plan. If yes, you would pay in full and submit your receipt to your provider for reimbursement.

Q: What kinds of payment methods Do you accept?

A: I accept payment via e-transfer and credit cards (extra charge applicable).

Q: What is your cancellation AND RESCHEDULING policy?

A: Your appointment is reserved just for you. A late cancellation or missed visit leaves a hole in my day that could have been filled by another client. As such, we require 48 hour notice for any cancellation or changes to your appointment. Clients who provide less than 48 hours notice, or miss their appointment, will be charged a cancellation fee.

Q: Is everything I tell you confidential?

A: All information you share with me are private and confidential. This will be discussed further in our first meeting.

Q: How is psychotherapy regulated?

A: In Ontario, psychotherapy is regulated by the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) – which is the same organization I am licensed with. You can learn more at http://www.crpo.ca/.
