So often, when we feel stuck or unfulfilled, it’s because we’re looking outside of ourselves for happiness, fulfillment or direction.

In reality, however, the only way to truly achieve these things is to turn inward. Taking the time to know, accept and trust yourself is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself (and those you love), and it would be my pleasure to guide you on this journey.

I’m Wendy Sun, a Toronto-based registered psychotherapist who combines spiritual psychotherapy with energy psychology modalities to offer a holistic mind-body-spirit approach to mental wellness.

Where talk therapy are excellent tools for exploring thoughts and behaviours, energy psychology techniques allow us to access our inner worlds through our bodies and emotions. For many clients, combining the two results in significant shifts and deeper transformation than talk therapy alone can provide.

My energy psychology modality of choice is EFT (which stands for Emotional Freedom Techniques, often referred to as ‘tapping’) because it is active, empowering and highly effective.

I help clients of all demographics work through a wide variety of challenges, with a focus on supporting young adults struggling with anxiety, perfectionism, a lack of fulfillment and/or direction, and difficulty navigating family and societal expectations.

In all that I do, I am committed to offering a compassionate, engaging presence, and to seeing each client as a whole being as opposed to a label, diagnosis or symptom.

I see clients online most of the time. Limited in person sessions are also available, which are conducted in Toronto’s east-end at Active Care Centre at 1200 Markham Rd. (Suite 515) Scarborough.

My Story

My journey to this point is a winding one. After coming to Canada from Taiwan as a young girl – and working equally hard at school and to fit in – I went to the University of Waterloo and graduated with a degree in Chartered Accounting, a career that I pursued for more than 20 years before discovering my true passion, and this new path.

Though I had done traditional talk therapy before, I discovered holistic psychotherapy after the death of my brother in 2013. With a broken heart, unresolved grief, and intense anger, I spiraled into a spiritual crisis that led me to seek out professional help.

The journey of self-discovery, understanding and acceptance that followed changed my life in virtually every way. In addition to learning to love myself for the first time ever, I was empowered to make positive changes in many aspects of my life – including my career.

I felt called to help others find balance, grow, and live a life full of meaning and purpose also. So, in 2013, I went back to school (while working 9 to 5 and balancing family life!)

I am now a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapist of Ontario. I have trained with the Transformational Arts College (Toronto) and graduated with a post-graduate Diploma in Spiritual Psychotherapy and Spiritual Director.

My interest in – and passion for – EFT/tapping emerged after I began incorporating energy psychology modalities into my practice, which led to deeper and more profound transformation for my clients. I found this one to be particularly empowering and effective because of its versatility, accessibility and effectiveness. When done consistently over time, it can change our neural pathways and create new ways of being.

I became certified as both an Emotional Freedom Techniques practitioner and coach through the National EFT Training Institute and it is now a core part of my practice and approach. I am proud to use this approach to provide support as an approved mental health provider for the NIHB (Non-Insured Health Benefits) for First Nations and Inuit, sponsored by the federal government. I hold a San’yas Indigenous Cultural Safety certifcate.

With the full support of my husband and two (wonderful!) children, I’m now doing the work I feel truly called to do. I’ve been told I have a unique ability to identify with and connect with my clients – and I believe it’s because of the journey that brought me here.

I can relate to my clients on many levels: as a Canadian child of immigrant, one half of an interracial relationship, the other of mixed-raced children, as someone who has experienced grief, who traded a safe and predictable career to follow my passion, and as a recovering perfectionist who is continuously growing and learning about herself.

Outside of work, I love spending time with my family. We are big fans of music, sports (basketball especially) and travel. Here in the city, you’re likely to find us taking in a concert, singing along to a great playlist in our backyard, or cheering on the Raptors.
